PUBLIC WARNING SYSTEM
The alarming system functions as a uniform system that
can be deployed at the national, regional or local level. Its operation is guaranteed
by municipalities, while the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for
Civil Protection and Disaster Relief sees to its organisational and operational
aspects at the national and regional levels. Commercial companies, institutions
and other organisations engaging in activities which may pose a risk for the
wider environment must organise and maintain, at their own expense, a warning
system which corresponds to the type of threat for which they are responsible.
With the Regulation on the Organisation and Operation
of the Monitoring, Notification and Alarming System (Official Gazette of the
Republic of Slovenia, 45/97), the government introduced new uniform alarm signals
for danger. The same Regulation also prescribes a new emergency number, which
1. DANGER WARNING - a steady two-minute
siren warning of the impeding danger of high water levels, fire, or an environmental
or other disaster.
Turn on your radio or TV, follow the emergency information
and act in accordance with the instructions.
4. SIREN TESTING takes place every first
Saturday of the month at noon. It is the same as the signal for the end of danger.
On the territories of the municipalities of Brežice,
Krško, Sevnica, Hrastnik and Trbovlje, a special signal for the immediate danger
of an accident involving chlorine is also in use.
2a IMMEDIATE DANGER OF AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING
CHLORINE - lasts 100 seconds: a wailing 30-second siren followed by
a steady 40-second siren, followed by another 30-second wailing sound, deployed
when there is the danger of chlorine leaks into the environment.
Use personal protective equipment. Proceed immediately
to a higher altitude and upwind.
This special signal is in use in the municipalities of
Brežice, Krško, Sevnica, Hrastnik and Trbovlje.
