Slovenia became a member of the EU in 2004, and we are honoured that only after a few years we were able to take on the Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief is responsible for activities in the field of civil protection, and we plan to continue the good work started by previous Presidencies. In close cooperation with the Member States and all European institutions, we are aiming to contribute to the further strengthening of the European civil protection.

During the Presidency, we plan to host two events in Slovenia, organised jointly by the European Commision and our Administration:

• Seminar on Strengthening Cooperation with Candidate Countries and Western Balkan Countries in the Field of Civil Protection, from 24 to 26 February 2008 in Bled
• Meeting of Directors-General for Civil Protection, from 19 to 21 May in Ljubljana.
